Dear colleagues,

Out members in Bristol are pleased to share an exciting fully funded 1‑year Masters by Research studentship within the Suicide and Self-Harm Research Group (SASH) at the University of Bristol. This one-off opportunity is designed to support and develop an early career researcher passionate about suicide and self-harm prevention.

About the Studentship
The studentship provides a year of dedicated research training within SASH — a vibrant, multidisciplinary research group working to advance global understanding of suicide and self-harm and contribute to evidence-based prevention.

Uniquely, there is no predefined project. Instead, they invite applicants to propose a feasible 1‑year project using pre-existing datasets (e.g., ONS, WHO mortality database, Global Burden of Disease, Catalogue of Mental Health Measures, UK Data Service).

Applicants are encouraged to align their ideas with the research interests of at least one of the SASH leads and to contact potential supervisors before applying to discuss feasibility. Any questions related to the studentship, please contact Dr Duleeka Knipe (dee.knipe@bristol.ac.uk

What They Offer

  • A supportive research environment within a leading UK group in suicide and self-harm research
  • Regular SASH team meetings and idea-sharing sessions
  • High-quality research training via Bristol Medical School’s renowned short course programme
  • Opportunities to produce 1–2 academic publications
  • Support for strong candidates wishing to apply for PhD studentships after completion

Who Should Apply?
They are looking for motivated individuals with innovative project ideas related to suicide or self-harm, and who are excited to join one of the UK’s leading research groups in this field.
