Student Health Association

Our History

  • 1951 The Student Health Officers’ Association was created.
  • 1965 The charity was renamed the British Student Health Association.
  • 1988 The charity was renamed again to the British Association of Health Services in Higher Education (BASHE).
  • 2011 We rebranded the charity to the Student Health Association (SHA) to reflect our growing membership outside of the UK.

Our Purpose

Our charity has a number of objectives that help us meet our primary purpose of supporting students to remain at university. We aim to:

  • Provide the highest possible standards of health delivery and education.
  • Award bursaries to students with disabilities to help support them with their studies.
  • Share good practice through member networking and discussion.
  • Develop member skills and expertise through study days and conferences.
  • Facilitate and monitor research projects.
