About The Student Health Association

Our History
- 1951 The Student Health Officers’ Association was created.
- 1965 The charity was renamed the British Student Health Association.
- 1988 The charity was renamed again to the British Association of Health Services in Higher Education (BASHE).
- 2011 We rebranded the charity to the Student Health Association (SHA) to reflect our growing membership outside of the UK.
Our Purpose
Our charity has a number of objectives that help us meet our primary purpose of supporting students to remain at university. We aim to:
- Provide the highest possible standards of health delivery and education.
- Award bursaries to students with disabilities to help support them with their studies.
- Share good practice through member networking and discussion.
- Develop member skills and expertise through study days and conferences.
- Facilitate and monitor research projects.
